FFmpeg (Windows, Mac, Linux)

FFmpeg is actually a base for many converters. It is a command line tool to convert multimedia files between formats.

WinFF (Windows, Linux)

A GUI for the FFmpeg which supports most of the formats supported by FFmpeg.

It supports converting multiple files in one time and the application is open source.

ffmpegX (Mac)

This Mac application makes use of ffmpeg, mpeg2enc and mencoder tools for converting media.

It works very fast and can queue encoding jobs.

Firefogg (Any OS With Firefox)

A Firefox plugin that uses ffmpeg library for encoding videos.

CU3OX is a free software (for Windows or Mac OS) that enables you to create beautiful and 3D Flash image sliders.

It has support for multiple transition effects like cubic, bounce or elastic where each of them can be customized with:

• the number of pieces
• tween type
• z-distance
• distance
• time
• delay and more

Besides adding images locally, it can get them from Flickr or PhotoBucket and upload with the built-in FTP engine.

Once creating the slider is completed, the software simply generates the code to be inserted inside the web page.

In order to edit the gallery, it is not required to use CU3OX again, updating XML files will be enough.

The output of the software is very similar to CU3ER, the popular 3D Flash image slider where the main difference is "this being a desktop version".

cFTP is an open source and multi-user PHP application that  enables you to create a repository to send/receive files with multiple clients.

Each client/user is limited to see the files uploaded for them which also works as a history of "sent" files.

For images, it displays the thumbnails for a better recognition.

The application has a simple and good-looking interface and can be installed with a web-based installer.

It can be localized in means of date-time format, timezone and language.

And also, cFTP can be branded by simply uploading a logo.

HTML5 video is great as it doesn't require any 3rd party plugins and works in most mobile browsers. However, it is not supported in every browser.. yet.

Also, browsers supporting the <video> – <audio> tags require different codecs and have inconsistent player UIs.

MediaElement.js is a jQuery plugin which enables you to use the <video> tag with one H.264 file (you can also include OGG or WebM, but you don't have to).

If the player doesn't support it, the plugin replaces the player with a Flash or Silverlight-powered one.

There is also MediaElementPlayer.js for building a complete player that looks and functions the same in all browsers.
