Past week we where looking for a document management and download solution that was Joomla 1.5 native, supports multiple file formats, organize the documents using a simple category approach and could be easily integrated into the menu of our Joomla site. We did check some of the available document management extensions on the Joomla extension directory and ended up with Rubberdoc.

Fosdem is probably the biggest open source event in Europe. To quote the Fosdem guide, Fosdem is: free sofware, open source, 250 lectures, dev rooms, 5000+ hackers, and beer. A lot of open source projects are present over here, for example: Linux distributions like Debian/Fedora/OpenSuse/Ubuntu, Mysql, PostgreSQL, Gnome, KDE, etc. As always, the venue for the Fosdem is Brussels university.

I had to work with Typo3 some time ago. I wanted to add a javascript-foldout menu from Peter Klein.
At first I got a very long, and deeply structured menu. It was fully open and all of its parent and child elements were shown. After loading all levels are hidden. With click on the icons the menu unfolded. That corresponds to the normal structure of correct menus where Javasript is unnecessary.
The supposed advantage of Peter Klein’s script is that it remembered which points of navigation are open and these keep open. For a normal well structured side this application isn’t necessary. In the available case it acted over an online manual. So reading became clearer while the navigation was open, and users could see what they had read already.
