No one gets closer to men than Gillette. And to prove this Gillette used nanotechnology to write their ad campaign on a man’s shaven beard.The ads were created using an electron microscope at The University of Nottingham. The smallest ad is written on the tip of a man’s hair and under 100 microns in size, it is currently being verified by the Guinness World Records as the world’s smallest ad. Blown up versions of these ads formed a print and poster campaign. The actual hairs were then placed in men’s bathrooms at airports where they would typically freshen up. With the hairs was a QR code through which people could access extra content showing what was on the hair.

Most of the MySQL users will remember MySQL-Front, a very popular database manager application which later on stopped being developed (and turned into a paid application by another team).

The developer of this application, Ansgar Becker, re-launched this project under the name HeidiSQL, it is again free + open source and improved regularly.

HeidiSQL can connect to multiple databases and besides creating/editing databases, tables, views, stored routines and triggers, it has support for scheduling events (great for regular jobs like backups).

Databases and records can be exported or imported with multiple formats and its even possible to transfer a database directly into another server.

Currently experimental but HeidiSQL can now connect and manage MSSQL databases which is awesome for anyone working with both platforms.

There are many other handy features offered like optimize/repairing tables, duplicating them or query editing with syntax highlighting.

OpenJS Grid is a very easy-to-setup solution for displaying records as a user-friendly datagrid.

It comes as a plugin for jQuery with the PHP files for handling the Ajax requests and can be called with a simple/one-line function.

The data to be shown on the initial load can be limited to a desired number, rest of the records can be browsed with pagination and every column can be sorted.

And, there are many options like:

  • showing/hiding row numbers
  • inline editing
  • deletion of records
  • filtering records with date range

There are callbacks on every step (rowClick, loadComplete, saveFail, etc.) and the design of the grid can be totally changed with CSS3-powered theming support.

Accessing JSON data can get complicated if you are not using a library/class (for JS or the server-side language used) which makes working with that data type easier.

JSONSelect is a JavaScript library that simplifies reaching JSON data with CSS-like selectors.

Besides standard hierarchical selectors like ".objectName .objectName2", there is support for :first-child or :nth-child as well and you can quickly target any part or all of the dataset.

The library is still under heavy development, more features are expected to be added, however, it is already pretty powerful and functional.
