A couple of weeks ago, Apple released its long-awaited new Mac Pro. To say that it was not appreciated would be an understatement. The pricing of the screen stand was widely commented, which sounds quite normal when you take a look at the price of $999.

However, there was more too it. The main complain was probably about the design of the computer tower itself, which was quickly compared to a cheese grater on Twitter. This is a problem when you are a company that usually sells good design.

In Bulgaria, this whole controversy gave ideas to some opportunistic and clever advertisers. An agency that goes by the name The Smarts went to IKEA and sold them a campaign that involves making fun of Apple.

The visual of the ad makes fun of pretty much everything: the look-and-feel of the Mac Pro, the company name (designed for Apples), and the ridiculous price.

Most of Designer Daily’s reader probably already know of Muzli, the popular Chrome extension to find design inspiration. They recently launched a search engine, Muzli Search, dedicated to finding good visual content, another super useful for designers of all kind.

As one could expect it from a search engine, Muzli Search is insanely easy to use. They also provide some tips to let you know how to better search. For example, on the screenshot above, you can see the results for a search for “concert flyer”. As you can see, the results are pretty spot on.

They also add some interaction to the search by letting you pick colors from the frontpage’s background image. This picks the HEX color and launches a search for visuals with the same color, you can then go further in this search to look for icons or vectors for with that specific color.

As you can guess from this article, Muzli Search immediately made it to my bookmarks and will become a tool that I will use intensively for my design work.

When choosing Without for its branding, Sushi Daily made an excellent decision. The London-based design studio did a great job with the branding, using simple illustrations and typography to create a friendly logo that can easily be declined in many variations.

The basic logo is very subtle, the hair of the woman illustrated look like a fish with its mouth wide open, while the sticks in the hair look just like chopsticks. The brand being European, it was important to give it a Japanese touch while still making it attractive for European customers, which is the case in my opinion.

Butcher Billy is an illustrator based in Curitiba, Brazil. He creates powerful illustrations in a comic book style and has a real talent for creating a vintage look-and-feel in his art.

One of his most popular illustration series is this Planet Mercury work. In it, the artist integrated rockstar Freddy Mercury into comics covers and turned him into all kinds of heroes. This work can be purchased as prints on the illustrator’s Redbubble shop.
